Lawson has been spinning for almost 10 years now, working his
way from rockin' high school house parties with two portable CD
players and a boo-boo mixer, to the Gemini CDJ-10s, to the set-up
you see below. His tastes in music have always varied even throughout
the early years from hip-hop, house, & booty, but most notably
screw, the hip-hop sub-genre originated in his home town
Houston, TX.
Screw music, no
matter how droll it may appear to certain people, has always interested
Lawson. There's just somethin' about how the music becomes hypnotic
as you slow it down, how the beats groove through a syrupy aura.
Often referred to as "The Mexican Screw", Lawson somehow
captures a similar vibe and feel to the music as the late great
DJ Screw once did on his original "greys". But it's
not just the sound it's also the selection of jams that he puts
in rotation, bumping beats and raps from well-known and uknown
artists alike, that conjures up the old days of Screw tapes. RIP
